142064(FGW, FNW livery) noted in service with new seat covers, to the style of the refurbished HST carriages and mauve painted walls below the windows - replacing the previous red material - carried out by early January? Other sets still have the seating style that was unique to refurbished FNW units. Toilets on the FGW sets have also had their walls repainted mauve.

142001 on the 1420 Exmouth-Paignton, back in service for the first time since July 2007. Its first day was 25/03/08 - and in this view near Teignmouth on that day it was operating with 142064. 001 and 064 were the first two units to move to Exeter from the north west during 2007.

142028 at Dawlish station. The Western Morning News today (08/03) reports that five of the 12 FGW 142s are to return to Northern Rail. Since transfer from Northern Rail, this - as per the others, has been fitted with emergency window hammers and emergency light sticks.

142070 leading 142030 at Dawlish. Both have had some refurbishment as well as the modifications mentioned to 142028 above, 030 and 070 have new wall coverings and 030 has new FGW dark blue seating as well.

Northern Rail still have 142011, 142012, 142014, 142032, 142046, 142047, 142048, 142052 and 142058 in service, which have not had the same Glasgow Works attention as the remainder of the Northern fleet. All nine do not carry Northern livery, nor do 142013 or 142061 which have been to Glasgow Works.

A quick summary of the five 142s that were not refurbished by First North Western as they were intended to be withdrawn because of the closure of the Rochdale loop in 2004! All still have orange painted interior end walls...

30/01/08:

142001(FGW, FNW livery) and 142071(Northern, Arriva livery) are the only two units currently stored, both have been stripped of many parts.
142095 returned to service during December having been stored twice during the year, once in spring and once in summer.

Few of Northern's ex FNW 142s remain in FNW colours, only 142003/011/012/013/014/032/061 carried the colours during mid January.

Most rateable working of the month is likely to have been 142009 'Newton Heath TMD' which worked the 16xx Exeter-Par and 2004 Par-Exeter on Sunday 6th January 2008. This was thanks to engineering works closing the line west of St Austell, creating an 'out-and-back' move for an Exeter crew to Par.

142028 entry area, note the addition of the emergency light sticks either side of the cab door. To the left of the wheelchair ramp (not very visible, behind the door) is a Northern safety info poster. The wheelchair ramp used to be under the luggage rack on the right but Northern moved these during 2007.

Also added since Northern days are these emergency info signs above each window, and window hammers.
