20/10/06: Thanks to regular news contributions in the past week or so it is possible to see just how extensive use of 47's has been, lets hope for more! Above are 47805 leading 47802 (presumably only 805 powering) at Billings Green near Davenham hauling 6C27 1426 Sandbach to Sellafield.

20/10/06: The rear of a light engine move leaving Carlisle for Crewe, closest to furthest from the camera are 47298, 847, 839, 812 and 815. This move left just 237/501(Sellafield) and 802/805(in use) (OOS), and 843 at Carlisle of the 47 fleet late on during Friday the 20th.

21/10/06: 47703 stands at Paignton after arriving with 1Z47, an Intercity Merrymaker, from Paddington. The train was just load 8 with one first class carriage (plus first class seating in the buffet area).

28/10/06: 47703 hauls 1Z97 (Chinley-Carlisle-Newcastle) at Hellifield. 47709 was on the rear.

28/10/06: 47709 after arrival at Newcastle, this worked the train from Carlisle after a reversal. 47703 then worked from Newcastle to Durham and on a ‘mini-tour’ via Hartlepool and Sunderland and back to Newcastle.

28/10/06: 47709 awaiting a platform at Newcastle station on the return from nearly two hours at Heaton Carriage Sidings, it would then work 1Z98 1715 Newcastle to Preston via York/Sheffield/Man Vic.

28/10/06: 47709 became the first loco failure on the 23 Compass Tours so far, traction motor problems leading to it failing after New Mills Central, but limping into Manchester Victoria on various different numbers of traction motors. Proving the use of top’n’tail 47703 was removed from the rear and hauled the train to it’s Preston terminus. 703 and 709 above were at Preston after the finish of the tour.
