11/08/76: 47256 stands at Old Oak Common. A large number of 47s received TOPS numbers in this position on their two tone green livery, with their D numbers being painted out as can be seen here (did any receive TOPS numbers whilst having dark green cab window surrounds?). Unusually, the paint on this cab end applied to cover the D number continues all the way to the lower bodyside, including over where the dark green would normally be. 256 later received a unique repaint (both sides?) in all over dark green in 1977 following a fire, the only 47 to carry all over dark green until the Great Western Trains loco's in the late 90s, albeit a different shade.
