17/06/99: This is Ascot week and on this particular Thursday Howard photographed three charters heading for Ascot via Bracknell. This one above is 47738, seen at Port Meadow heading south to Ascot, with a 'Regency Rail Cruises' headboard - working 1Z38 0630 Preston-Ascot (returned on ???).

17/06/99: 47742 working 1Z36 0800 Chester-Ascot (returned on 1Z96 1846 Ascot-Chester), before its ILRA Virgin days, also at Port Meadow which is between Oxford station and Wolvercote Junction.

17/06/99: 47799 was on the third Ascot charter. This was 1Z37 0730 Manchester-Ascot, 799 would return on 1Z97 1905 Ascot-Manchester.

17/06/99: Also on the same day this busy seen was recorded at Port Meadow, with 47817 leading 1O71 0736 Blackpool North-Portsmouth Harbour which had 47806 hanging onto the back end to work 1M32 1435 Portsmouth Harbour-Blackpool North return. This was vice-HST at the time, hence 1N11 0647 Preston-Blackpool/1O71/1M32 are not listed in the summer 1999 diagrams mentioned below.

16/07/99: 47775 on the regular lunchtime working through Warrington hauling a dead 86. A 47 was booked to haul the electric from Crewe to Warrington Royal Mail Terminal, and then dragged it back south later on. Any reason why this happened then the line was electrified into the mail terminal and all other trains went in with electric loco's on? Copyright: Shaun C

20/08/99: As shown on the list below for 20th August 1999, 47840 hauled 1A46 0919 Holyhead-Euston as far as Crewe. Since this photo was taken it was painted into Virgin livery, then BR blue in 2002 and then BR two tone green prior to entering preservation in 2007!
