class 175's......!

Bong!

Commonly known as "bong" units due to the loud audible "bong - bong - bong" sound when the units doors open! Previous units had other sounds to alert partially sighted passengers that the doors were unlocked, ie class 165/6's which went "ding" whilst 170's went "beep beep beep"!

Originally these class 175's suffered from poor availability for service, leaving First North Western extremely short of units. Loco haulage using class 47's was eventually seen as the best option to be able to provide more seats on busier trains. Although the reliability has now hugely improved it is still time to......
