
Class 175’s had replaced class 101’s and class 37’s hauling mark1 and mark2 coaches, but due to a lack of availability of the new 175’s, many class 101’s were still operating and loco haulage returned.
June 2002 saw the return of class 47’s to inter regional stopping services from the Midlands to Holyhead, the first working pictured above was 1D70 2226 Crewe-Holyhead hauled by 47757 on Sunday 2nd.
