19/11/02: from Richard Peck FNW MD to Steven Gaskill of HMRI
"FNW have actively explored the use of alternative non-Mark 1 rolling stock to cover for class 175
availability shortfalls. Although locomotive hauled coaching stock has been introduced to cover for
the non-availability of class 175 units, the ability to introduce more loco hauled trains is limited due
to the operational constraints of the routes over which FNW operates. Investigations will, however,
continue into this possible option irrespective of the outcome of this application".
The outcome of the above, pleasantly, was THREE loco hauled turns during the Spring of 2003.
