A close up of this unusual conversion, to fit a door in the near-side top deck! There are two attachments below the door, possibly for steps to be positioned next to the bus.

Showing some of the body-work undertaken by May 2005. The upstairs door is still in place, but the attachments below the door have been removed. Note the lower deck window on the right (the one below the door) which on series 1/2 VRs longer in length than other windows. On series 3s it is the same size as the other lower/upper windows, though the windows in the corresponding position on the top deck are still the longer length in this position on both sides.

The near side by 01/06/06, with the upstairs door removed and a window fitted - it is this window upstairs that is longer than other windows, and therefore harder to come across when looking for spares. These longer windows have always had the 'sliding' opening section, never the hopper type which were only fitted to the standard sized windows.
